In 1929, a small airport called Merle Fogg was built on an abandoned golf course. During the Second World War, it was used as a naval base, where civilian aircraft were converted into military ones, from there they were sent to Europe and North Africa for the war against fascism. It was from this airport that several US Navy planes took off and disappeared forever in the Bermuda Triangle. After the war, the military base was closed, and the territory of the airport was completely transferred to Broward County, and the airport itself switched to civilian flights, while maintaining its International status. After undergoing a global renovation in the late 50s, the airport began to bear its current name - Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood International Airport. Since then, the development of the airport has been driven several times by commercial interests and natural disasters. For example, hurricanes in 2005 severely damaged terminals, runways and outbuildings, and the airport was closed for a week. Since then, the airport has continued its development. It currently has 4 terminals, several major airlines in the world are based, directors use Fort Lauderdale for filming. The airport has a wide internal infrastructure. Cafes and shops, banks and a VIP-zone make your stay on its territory as comfortable as possible. Offices of rental companies, both large world distributors and local ones, are located directly in the terminal, and you can get a car for rent immediately upon arrival. Fort Lauderdale is a resort town with luxurious beaches, and Miami is just 34 km from the airport. By renting a car, you can significantly expand the range of your beach holiday. There is also a large port - Port Everglades, from which cruise ships depart to the Caribbean, which makes Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood airport attractive for tourists. The Atlantic Ocean, the city's vast canal system, makes Fort Lauderdale look like America's Venice. The botanical garden, antique car museums, amusement parks - all this will diversify your vacation and leave an indelible impression for a long time.
